Open the low back, suspend the top of the head and connect tan tien to the root. Then your energy can flow freely, and your movements can be light and agile. Swimming Dragon Chi Kung was taught to Elaine Waters in 1986, by Master T K Shih.

Master Bill Wallace

photo of Master Bill Wallace

In June 1980, Bill Superfoot Wallace defeated Bill Biggs in a 12-round bout. With this final victory, Mr. Wallace drew a successful conclusion to his illustrious 15-year career as an undefeated Professional Karate Association (PKA) Middleweight Champion. Although this was Wallaces 23rd straight victory and his final match, his martial arts career was not over by a long shot.

Bill Wallace's education includes a bachelor's degree (1971) in physical education from Ball State University and a master's degree (1976) in kinesiology (the study of human movement) from Memphis State University. He has been one of the most dominant figures in martial arts having been named to Black Belt magazines Hall of Fame three times in seven years twice as Competitor of the Year and once as Man of the Year. In July 2004, Wallace was inducted into the United States Hall of Fame as Americas Kickboxing Legend. "The features of Yang family Tai Chi Chuan are derived from the ten requirements set by Yang Chengfu. When these requirements are fulfilled the features of Yang Style Tai Chi become manifest." Yang Zhenduo

These ten principles are specific operational processes and not merely vague generalities; and they have to be manifested simultaneously while doing the postures and transitions of the form. For this to happen specific training is required.

Shihan Dean Chapman

photo of Dean Chapman

Shihan Chapman began his Martial Arts training in 1973 under Ichiro Takahata. Shihan Chapman was encouraged by Sensei Takahata to supplement his training with various other martial styles including but not limited to kung fu, yang-style tai chi, northern white crane, chin-na, and weaponry.

Shihan Chapman, a life long student of Goju-ryu and other Okinawan Martial Arts, will give a seminar on the nunchaku form, "Kihon no Nunchaku" and the open-hand form known as Tensho, which emphasizes the "soft" or "internal" aspects of Fukien White Crane and Goju-ryu.

Courses:
Kihon no Nunchaku
Made famous by Bruce Lee, everyone knows what Nunchaku are, but very few are skilled in the actual combat applications. Shihan Chapman will teach the nunchaku kata, "Kihon no Nunchaku" with basic spins, applications and grappling technicques. All off these techniques may be utilized with common items such as belts or shirts etc. This seminar is for all ranks, however those with black belt level experience will gain unique insight into this popular but misunderstood training device.

This seminar will include a brief introduction of Nunchaku History and an exhibit including many rarely seen variations.
All ages and ranks. Black belts do not overlook this class!!!

Please note that padded nunchaku will be required for this seminar, and will be available for sale for anyone who would like to purchase them at the Festival. We will be making light contact with each other with the nunchaku during the seminar, hence the requirement for the padded version. Each person is welcome to bring a wooden pair as well.

Tensho
Tensho is usually translated as "elegant hands" or "turning palms" (but sometimes "Heaven and Earth"). It emphasizes slow controlled breathing techniques coordinated with internal block/strike methods suggestive of the White Crane. Like many true arts, this form appears simplistic but contains a depth and profoundness not found in modern martial sport.

Suitable for all ranks and systems, this form is recommend highly as a supplement to any Karate/TKD style. American Styles in particular will be surprised at the enrichment this brief but intriguing kata brings to their training. "Traditional" Styles will enjoy the flexibility presented in the applications of the seemingly "soft and even fancy" techniques introduced by this Authentic Okinawan Karate kata.
